LITTLE FARM SCHOOL
AN OUTDOOR EARLY LEARNING EXPERIENCE

OUR PHILOSOPHY
PLAY-WORK
Children have an innate desire to grow and learn. They just need a little freedom to do it well.
On our farm, we combine meaningful work, play and gentle literacy to generate an early sense of intrinsic motivation and confidence.
OUTDOOR
CONNECTION
“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach of us more than we can ever learn from books.” - John Lubbock
We agree.
Life is better with friends.
We work together to learn social-emotional skills to cultivate natural connections that prepare children for future community involvement.
THE DAY
Tuesday and Thursday
9am-12pm
Our time together consists of:
- beginning/ending group circles with light focus on language and numeracy
- farm work: garden, egg collection, hay and water delivery
- outdoor free play
- art center projects

ABOUT THE FARM
Little Farm School will take its inaugural class in 2022!
The farm has been broken in by little feet informally for the last two years, but we are officially opening our doors to the greater community in September 2022.
We will offer a Tuesday/Thursday program from 9:00am-12:00pm for 3-6 year-olds. Monthly cost is $200 per child. This includes a small snack.
We will also offer a monthly drop-in option for ambulatory
1-2 year-olds for $150/month. Caregivers must stay for the duration of the program with these kids.
Little Farm School will follow the Cheney Public Schools calendar.
The farm consists of 1/2 acre garden, pumpkin patch, and heaps of animals, including: 30 chickens, 5 goats, 1 mini donkey, and 6 alpacas.
We have a converted shipping container shelter for our art projects and coverage for less than ideal weather conditions.
The Grown-Ups:
Erika Ellis: is a pediatric physical therapist. She loves seeing children progress developmentally and believes a farm is the perfect environment for sensory, vestibular, balance and motor coordination development. Prior to physical therapy, she worked with various non-profits, including Teach for America as a second grade teacher.
Danielle Meredith, teacher: Previous bakery manager and lifelong culinarian, childcare professional, homesteader. You can find her in the kitchen baking up new ideas or in the garden working with the kids.
